| Hi I am new |

|
I was diagnosed with a cyst almost a month ago when I developed all of a sudden a horrrible pain which made me feel as though my insides were being ripped apart.
After a few days in hospital they discovered a cyst 10cm x 6cm but because the pain had eased off they sent me home with painkillers. I presume it was fluid filled they didnt say anything different
After the first week the pain has virtually gone apart from the odd cramping almost like mild period pain and I can now open my bowels and urinate with out gripping onto hand towel rail.
Now I am constantly feeling sick and have pains in my leg but my stomach is still huge. I am still get very hot flushes and back ache and a couple of days ago I got a boil on my back. Still feeling very emotional too which my Gp has put down to hormones.
Is it likely I will suffer that sort of pain again?
I have another ultrasound on aug 20th.
I dont seem to be sleeping very well either and have been up sice 7am looking on the internet as I get too much pain in my back and now my shoulder from my boil.
I feel drained still and wondering if there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
My Gp doesnt seem to think it will shrink on its own.
Thanks Tracey xx |

Hello Tracey,
Poor you ! I am sorry to hear that you are in such a state. It really sounds like you had a ruptured cyst. The pain upon using your bladder or colon is most probably associated to the liquid that was released into your abdomen when the cyst ruptured. Large amounts of liquid in there can really irritate your abdominal wall and makes things very tender down there. I still remember how mine felt. I describe it like a charliehorse of my pelvic muscles and the only way I could lessen the pain was to completely relax those muscles (while sitting on the toilet of course, for obvious possible consequences).
Either the cyst that you have at present leaked fluid into your abdomen or it was another such cyst. I am wondering, are you able to take Advil or some other form of ibuprofen ? If so, a couple of Advil when you begin to feel this same pain sensation will significantly reduce the effect of a rupture. This is what my gynecologist told me when I was concerned about the cyst that I have (which is about 8 cm) possibly rupturing. She told me that it is better to take the medication at the earliest opportunity when I start to feel serious pain. This is better than waiting until the pain has hit full force as the Advil will work more efficiently. I am not sure that painkillers will do the trick as the ibuprofen counteracts the gonadotropins that are causing the pain (sorry about any spelling errors). This is why Panadol, Advil and other types of ibuprofen are usually recommended for gynecological pain (they have anti inflammatory properties).
Also, try a heating pad or a hot bath to relax all of the muscles down there. This will do wonders for you and help to restore you back to normal in a shorter amount of time. And best of all, HANG IN THERE. I know exactly how you feel as my next ultrasound is on Monday and I am already starting to feel anxious. Trust in your body's ability to help itself and try to help it by relaxing as much as possible and by treating it well. Then you will see how the cyst is behaving under your caring regime. Plenty of fruits and veggies, lots of sleep, hot relaxing baths, comforting walks etc.. Try it and see what happens.
Take care and if you need moral support, don't be afraid to come back. Let us know how you are doing. |

They gave me ibrufofen when I left the hospital as well as some other painkillers.
I never thought about a cyst rupturing as they just told me there was one there no mention of having one before.
If a cyst had ruptured would you still be being sick 3 weeks later.
I seem to eat very little but not lose weight lol. Although I did wake up starving this morning but by this afternoon the appetite had gone again.
Not sure if its about to flare up again as my period is next weekend and I am having pelvic pain again and have just been sat on loo for half an hour waiting for something to happen but nothing coming out and this is how it started last month. As long as it isnt tonight as my husband is away
When you go for your scan next week are they looking to see if it is still
there and if it is are they operating.
I dont know what they are doing after my scan I think if it hasnt grown they are making another scan appointment but if its grown I think they are operating.
I hope everything goes well for you.

Hello Tracy,
My next appointment is to keep an eye on the cyst. Over here the magic number is 10 cm and anything over 10 cm gets a laparoscopy for removal. This is mainly because at this size there is more risk that the cyst will twist the ovary and cause it to die (not to mention that this is extremely painful). Therefore, if my cyst begins to grow or change (ie. develop solid components), they will operate. I am hoping that now that I am off of the pill (after 20 years or so) that my body will begin to fix any problems that the pill has caused and that the cyst will start to shrink. We will see.
You pain may be due to the cyst leaking fluid into your abdomen. The pushing sensation that you feel like doing sounds like this to me and I think it is because there is something in your cul de sac region so you body naturally feels like it has to come out (like when there is stool there for example). This is my theory anyway because when I described this sensation of wanting to relax my pelvic muscles and to push they just looked at me blankly. I have seen noticed many other women with cysts who have this sensation and this is what I think it is. If the cyst has shrunk on your next ultrasound then you will know that some fluid had leaked in your abdomen and this may explain things a little.
If you continue to experience discomfort, phone your doctor again and let him or her know. Usually the pain from a ruptured cyst will subside in about a week but as I said, perhaps in your case, your cyst is leaking fluid on a regular basis. In other words, the first extreme case was when your cyst ruptured and more fluid was released and now it has perhaps partially closed off and is only leaking fluid once in a while, causing you the pain. Corpus luteal cysts are cysts that close off and fill will fluid and they can become quite large. They are basically the shell of the follicle that has released the egg into your fallopian tube and sometimes instead of regressing, they close off and get bigger. They are supposed to be temporary however and usually go away within three menstrual cycles.
I hope this problem is rectified for you very soon. There is definitely a light at the end of the tunnel even if it does not seem that way right now. Take care.

Hi Tracey,
I was diagnosed with a cyst almost 2 months ago after having pain in my rectum and bladder and vagina (almost a feeling like labor). This lasted the next two weeks and got really bad while on my first period after this happened. Then I started taking birth control pills which my ob recommended and i had about 80% relief for the next 3 1/2 weeks. Now my pain is back again with the pressure in my rectum, vagina and lower pelvic region. I am still taking the pill so I don't know what has changed. I also get nausious and dizzy periodically throughout the day but I have just been assuming that this is a side effect from being on the pill. I am absolutely miserable and am looking for that light at the end of the tunnel hoping that all of this will go away just as quickly as it came.
It has also been causing me anxiety just wondering if this is really what is wrong with me. The doctors don't seem to be alarmed so here i sit uncomfortably waiting and wondering.
Take care. |

Hi CC123
Sorry to hear you are in such discomfort. Are you waiting for a scan?
I can honestly say mine hasnt bothered me at all in the last few days apart from a slight pulling when I am lying down. I thought it might flare up this week due to my period being due but nothing. I am still aware it is there as I struggle to bend over like being pregnant.
I hope you feel better soon
