| A general complaint about doctors |
|
|
Hi all,
This may not be the most useful place to air my gripes, but it sure will help me get it off my chest!
In my last appointment with my GYN (an older male), I told him I'd been having pain again in the area of my cyst. I was starting to talk about my other symptoms, such as my abnormal fatigue, even when I've gotten a good night's sleep. When I mentioned that I have a two-year-old and a five-year-old, he said, "Well that will make anyone tired. Women don't understand that they need to nap during the day when the baby naps."
HELLO??? How am I supposed to nap when I have another child??? And let's not mention that I also WORK!!! Too bad I didn't have the presence of mind to say anything at the time.
This is the same practice that, a few years ago, tried to convince me that I didn't have a lump in my breast, which I definitely could feel myself. Two of the doctors in the practice said there wasn't anything there. They "let" me have an ultrasound because of my "anxiety." The ultrasound showed a 10 mm fibroadenoma. Did they ever say anything about it again? NO. Evidently it was not a suspicious lump, and I followed up with another scan myself at the radiology office and check it periodically.
There are more notable problems in my 10 years there. That is why I have now made an appointment at a new place. I need to remind myself that the patients are customers, not victims!!!
Stay tuned for updates, and thank you for listening (reading). _________________ Elizabeth |

Amen! Some doctors drive me crazy, too! I'm not sure why there's such pervasive incompetence. I mean, they're paid so much and receive such "thorough" training. My only guess is that the training they do receive must be seriously out-of-date and few stay up-to-date through the years. I also think that the medical community tries to pretend that they know everything when in reality they don't.
I know there are some really good doctors out there. I guess they're just hard to find. _________________ Love in Christ,

Thank you again for your reply and for starting this group. You must be an angel... I feel a little more positive about my problem now. _________________ Elizabeth |

I'm so glad this site has been helpful to you! Did I mention getting your thyroid checked? I think there's a link b/t thyroid and ovarian cysts. I don't have any hard data to support that; it's just a hunch. _________________ Love in Christ,

Alegre -
Thanks for starting this forum - there's not much information about ovarian cysts on the web - and really nothing to alleviate women's anxieties related to them.....
We need to support each other.

My pleasure. Please spread the word! I've found that LOTS of people get ovarian cysts (just by talking to my friends) but a lot of them don't really research it.
Sometimes I wonder if ovarian cysts are the least-discussed, modern-day epidemic out there.
Yes! Let's stick together. _________________ Love in Christ,
